The video above and diagram below show how to find out what kinds of materials will block the flow of infrared light. Simply place the material in between the transmitter and receiver, and see if the receiver still detects the signal! This is the same issue that happens when someone walks in front of the remote controller, while you are trying to use it to control a TV, DVD or video game. The signal doesn’t get through, because a person blocks infrared light.
Here are some materials you can try to see if they block or pass infrared light:
- paper
- plastic wrap
- cellophane
- your hand
- cloth
