You can have children do scavenger hunts in conjunction with, or as an alternative to brainstorming. A scavenger hunt is a very good homework assignment. Children can be on the lookout for all the places they see tape used on their way home from school, and around the house. Ask them to also pay attention to the type of tape that is used. They may see duct tape holding pieces of an automobile in place or cellophane tape covering a crack in a window. Around the home they will see many other types of tape used in different ways.
Share the results of the scavenger hunt the next day. Type of tape and the way it is used come together in a scavenger hunt, so list them together on a chart. After sharing the results of their scavenger hunts, make a separate list of all the different types of tape that they saw.
